Description
The Big Eight Conference was a league that consisted of the Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Colorado Buffaloes, Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas State Wildcats, Iowa State Cyclones, Missouri Tigers, and Nebraska Cornhuskers. The league had many star football players including Heisman Winners Steve Owens, Billy Sims, Johnny Rodgers, Mike Rozier, and Barry Sanders. Coaches Barry Switzer (Oklahoma) and Tom Osborne (Nebraska) led their football teams to National Championships. In basketball, Oklahoma Sooner superstar Wayman Tisdale torched the nets and was National Freshman of the Year in 1982. In 1971, three teams from the conference finished #1, #2, and #3 in the nation in college football. The Nebraska Cornhuskers won the '71 National Championship with Oklahoma ranked #2 and Colorado #3. The Big Eight Conference was known for it's annual late season Oklahoma-Nebraska clash, usually for the Conference title on the line. The Big Eight Conference started playing in 1960. Previously it had gone by other names and had fewer teams. The conference became the Big 12 in 1996. This digitally-restored 1972 Big Eight Conference artwork will look great in your game room or office. This art piece was created from non-copyrighted 1972 memorabilia.
